As suppliers of world-class wine to the yachting industry, Global Wine Solutions (GWS) has a vested interest in empowering service stewards and stewardesses to choose exciting and interesting wines to serve on board. As such, GWS has shared their insider’s knowledge about the most in-demand wines on board superyachts this season, with the hope of encouraging crew to be more adventurous when curating their onboard cellars.

“Most customers require a wide selection of wines and spirits, with a general focus upon popular favourites like Champagne and Provence rosé,” explains Liam Steevenson MW, CEO and Founder of GWS. “Demand for wines from the classic regions of France, Italy and Spain continue to dominate, although we are seeing an increasing percentage of wines from California, Australia and New Zealand going on board, which perhaps also reflects the expanding demographic of clients owning and chartering these days.”

According to GWS, the wines proving the most popular this summer are:

  • Dom Pérignon Rosé, Champagne, France
  • Ruinart, Blanc de Blancs Brut, Champagne, France
  • Domaine Jacques Carillon, Puligny-Montrachet, France
  • Baron de Ladoucette, ‘Baron de L’Pouilly-Fume, Loire, France
  • Château d’Esclans, Whispering Angel, Côtes de Provence, France
  • MAÏA, Côtes de Provence, France
  • Vega Sicilia ‘Valbuena 5’, Ribera del Duero, Spain
  • Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard, Savigny-les-Beaune, France

Some of the top spirits also include Macallan, ‘Double Cask’ 18-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky from Scotland and Clase Azul Tequila Reposado from Mexico.

As wine merchants to the superyacht industry, GWS not only sources these in-demand bottles but aims to educate crew about wine provisioning, storage, and service. Recognising that most yachts rarely have time to carry out such specialist training, GWS offers a wine management app named CruSmart that provides crew with expert wine knowledge at their fingertips.
