Hill Robinson marks quarter-century milestone
In 2001, two former superyacht captains established Hill Robinson as the first independent yacht management firm.

Twenty-five years ago, superyacht management existed almost exclusively in-house at brokerage houses, often operated as a secondary client-retention service. Former captains Nick Hill and Niall Robinson recognised that the growing size, sophistication, and regulatory complexity of superyachts joining the global fleet demanded something new: a dedicated, standalone firm providing comprehensive professional management across operational, technical, charter, and crew disciplines.
Hill Robinson was born in Antibes as a four-person initiative. Today, the firm officially marks its 25th anniversary as a global network of over 300 professionals across more than 20 offices worldwide.
Over the past two-and-a-half decades, Hill Robinson has steadily broadened its capabilities beyond traditional yacht management to include specialised corporate services, aviation, estate management, and procurement. In 2017, the Group further expanded its scope through the acquisition of Monaco-based brokerage Moravia Yachting, creating a complete 360-degree service platform combining deep technical management expertise with sales, charter, and the wider yachting lifestyle.
To mark the occasion, the milestone was celebrated privately ahead of the autumn boat shows. The team surprised partners Co-Founder Nick Hill, Co-Founder & CEO Niall Robinson, and Partners Mark Robinson and Karl H Hartmann with a specially commissioned artwork by renowned Monaco-based British artist Alan Walsh.

In a time of consolidation, independence
The 25-year milestone comes at a time of unprecedented consolidation across the luxury maritime sector, with private equity firms and corporate conglomerates acquiring brokerages, marinas, shipyards, and refit facilities under single corporate umbrellas. Within such a context, Hill Robinson’s legacy as the original independent management firm remains distinctly relevant.
Still privately held, the firm is deliberately structured to centre the client over outside shareholders and eliminate conflicts of interest.
“Remaining independent allows us to put the client first, always,” says Niall. “It gives us the freedom to act in their best interests while staying true to the values that define us: independence, discretion, and trust.”
“One way to compete in this market is through bravado—making a bold statement at boat shows, for example,” says Mark. “Hill Robinson has always taken a different approach, focusing on value, discretion, and a deliberately low profile. Owners appreciate having an experienced team working quietly and effectively behind the scenes, enhancing every aspect of life on board.”
Looking ahead: ‘Built to Evolve’
Refusing to rest on past success, the team at Hill Robinson is using the milestone as a launchpad for its new future-facing brand campaign, ‘Built to Evolve.’ The initiative highlights the firm’s ongoing adaptation to the changing demands of modern yachting—setting clients, crew, and vessels up for success over the next 25 years.
Anchoring this forward direction is the campaign’s core tagline: The right people make it happen. It serves as a clear reminder that no matter how complex or technologically advanced the superyacht landscape becomes, operational excellence relies fundamentally on human expertise.
“’Built to Evolve’ is our promise to be here for the long haul,” says Frédéric Dormeuil, Chief Operating Officer. “That means adapting alongside our clients and, above all, working with the right people to build lasting relationships.”
“Hill Robinson is built on people—from those who started this journey with us to the rising generation now stepping into key leadership roles,” says Karl. “That gives us a strong foundation: the knowledge, experience, and longevity within the firm, combined with the fresh ideas, energy, and perspective of the next generation coming through.”
“The most exciting part of reaching 25 years is that we still operate with the agility and flexibility of a startup,” concludes Niall. “We have 25 years of technical depth and operational expertise behind us, but my goodness me, there is still a real sense of freshness—as though we are only just getting started.”
